Iām Jade, a writer of words and hoarder of books from the rolling hills of Yorkshire.
If you donāt find me glued to my laptop working on another book, or brainstorming new posts for this newsletter, then youāll probably find me curled up under a fluffy blanket reading a new book, with a true-crime documentary playing in the background.
Usually with a cup of tea going cold nearby!
What is Caffeinated Scribbles?
Caffeinated Scribbles is the home of all my musings, reviews, book updates, and advice posts; both on writing and self-employment in general.
I used to run a mental health and neurodiversity blog under the name Jade Marie, which is where some of the older posts in the archives come from. At the beginning of 2023, I made the difficult decision to move away from that blog so that I could focus on taking my fiction writing full time, although Iāve kept many of the posts as so many people had found them helpful over the years.
As hard as it was to say goodbye to something I put over six years of work into, it was the right decision as in June of that year I achieved my childhood dream and became a published author, releasing my debut novella Vat of Acid into the world!
Iāve received some truly lovely reviews and feedback on it, and several readers messaged to ask when the sequel would be released as they wanted to know what happened nextā¦
Honestly, Iād originally intended for it to be a stand-alone. But, after those comments, I decided to sit down and plan out the next instalment - creatively referred to as VoA2, because I suck at naming things - which I hope to have ready to publish in the first half of 2024.
I also have a bunch of other short stories, novellas, and books that are either ideas floating around in my head, or half-written in a Scrivener file, because I have ADHD and canāt focus on just one project at a time š
Ironically, Iām a pantser rather than a plotter, which makes that fact even worse!
So, if youāve made it this far, here are some fun facts about me:
I have unlocked the rare achievement in life of having killed a cactus. šµ Two actually, since the replacement my partner bought me has probably been dead for a while now, and Iām just living in denial that I can somehow save it!
Iām ambidextrous, and regularly switch hands halfway through tasks without even noticing, which tends to confuse people when they first meet me.
I'm an avid reader and hoarder of books, to the point whereĀ I have fourĀ bookcases plusĀ a Kindle with over 400 books (and counting) on it...Ā š
As part of my work with my old blog, I was a guest on BBC Radio 5 Live, interviewed for ITV Calendar News about autism during the pandemic, and was even shortlisted in the top 5 for Blogger of the Year at the 2021 Blogosphere Awards; resulting in my partner and I attending a red-carpet event in London!
